Habits Counselling

Many children tend to develop para-functional oral habits at early ages in life, these habits include Tongue thrusting, thumb Sucking, mouth breathing, finger sucking, nail biting, food pouching, biting on blankets, soft toys etc. and a few more.

From the background of neurolinguistic programming, its understood that every habit is a combination of intention and action. The intention is always backed by the psychological needs.

Since dental appointments can cater to psychological intention only in a brief and broad manner, our goal is to replace the action while guarding the intention behind.

Children are shown videos and pictures of other kids with habits and the repercussions of these habits on their face development, as well on the alignments of their teeth.

In NLP we believe that changing the habit may take some time, but the closest possibility of change is to keep the intent behind the habit but change the act.

Early age counseling with,

Motivational “Calm Chair Star Charts”,

“NLP Guidance” and

“Calm Thumb Home”

are our key methods to work with children and help them grow out of these habits.

Regular follow ups then secure a no point of return to old habits.
